BHS Football Squeaks Past Clearwater/Orchard 34-32
Burwell Tribune
29 Sep 2010
Friday night's game against Clearwater/Orchard was a nail biter with everyone on the edge of their seats until the final gun.

Grant Jeffres intercepted a pass on the 27 yard line with two minutes remaining in the game to ease the tension.

"It was another good win for our football team," said Coach Luke Gideon. "We had way too many penalties throughout the game and that has to change. Our kids are playing hard and we need to continue to improve."

"I thought our offensive line did a nice job pass blocking. Grant Hitchcock, Tracy Taylor, Kevin Bird, and Austin Svoboda allowed Grant Jeffres to complete some nice passes," Gideon said. "Alec Galvan had another huge kick return for a TD and Sage Gideon's interception for a TD was another great play. Jacob Birch has been playing a big role for us in catching the football. Austin Svoboda has also played a huge role in the kicking game."

Burwell's scoring by quarters: 7-6, 7-6, 13-14, and 7-6.

The Longhorns had 13 first downs, 241 total yards (86 passing and 47 rushes for 155 yards). Two turnovers and 8 penalties for 90 yards were difficult to overcome.

In rushing Alec Galvan had 24-87-1 TD and Grant Jeffres has 18-60-3 TDs. Grant Jeffres completed 9 of 14 passes for 86 yards.

Receiving: J. Birch 5-56, Sam Lee 2-17, A. Galvan 1-7, and Cory Johnson 1-6.

Tackles: Galvan 10, Hitchcock 9, G. Jeffres 8, Colby Wurst 6, Lee 6.

Austin Svoboda kicked 4 PATs.
