Longhorns Close Regular Season, Galvan Joins 1,000 Yard Club

The Burwell Longhorns closed their regular season with a win at Verdigre on October 21. The Longhorns soundly defeated Verdigre/Niobrara 63-36.

"We had a great start to our game and jumped out to at 14-0 lead," said Coach Luke Gideon. "Our team was plagued with penalties and we have to clean up that part of our game. It was a good win to end the regular season."

Sophomore Alec Galvan had 24 carries for 259 yards and 2 touchdowns. With that Galvan accumulated 1,084 yards on the season, and joined the 1,000 Yard Club.

"Alec had a good night rushing and has now rished for over 1,000 yards this season," Gideon said.

Burwell had 21 first downs and a total of 471 offensive yards, 114 in passing and 357 in rushing. The Longhorns had one turnover and 11 penalties that equaled 100 yards.

Grant Jeffres rushed 11 times for 26 yards and 1 touchdown, and completed 9 of 11 passes for 101 yards and 3 touchdowns. Austin Svoboda caught two of those touchdown passes and kicked 4 PATs.

Scott Jeffres also recorded a safety for the Longhorn victory.

Burwell will head for the 1st Round of the Playoffs to take on Arapahoe.
